Dartmouth

Dartmouth lies at the mouth of the River Dart, on the western shore.

Dartmouth is a market town and fishing port., it is probably best known for its sailing and the Royal Naval College. The college was designed by Sir Aston Webb and opened in 1905.

Dartmouth has been associated with the navy since medieval times, when the port was one of the busiest in England. During the 2nd and 3rd Crusades many of the ships stopped here on their way to the Holy Land. Many Naval expeditions have set sail from Dartmouth. Included in the list is the fleet sent by Edward III to assist at the Siege of Calais.
